APDCL to Cut Power Supply of Website-Unregistered Consumers

The Assam government has urged all electricity consumers of the state to register their personal details on the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) website within July 15. The APDCL is compiling a database of all its customers and sought public cooperation in doing so.

The APDCL has urged customers to register their mobile numbers, e-mail ID, Aadhar number, occupation, etc in the APDCL portal, www.apdcl.org.

The step has been taken to ensure the identity and profile of each consumer and to facilitate better service including electricity bills and shut-down notifications.

The notification read, "Those customers who fail to register their mobile phone numbers in APDCL portal, and not providing their relevant details within 15th July 2021, may be barred from electricity connection temporarily."

Previously, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the APDCL to compile a proper database containing information on the names, phone numbers, etc. of 63 lakh power consumers in the state.

The state power sector is losing revenue worth Rs 300 crore per month as informed by the government. Apart from various other measures that are being undertaken to recover the losses, data on consumers is to be created to keep track of electricity consumption and payments.

The Assam government hinted that if the three government-run power companies, Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL), Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGCL) and Assam Electricity Grid Corporation (AEGCL) cannot be turned into profitable ventures in the next five years, then they might be privatised.
